Eskom CEO - Lord of Darkness
Most of my posts have an international slant, but due to the power outages +South Africa experienced yesterday (+Load Shedding ) I thought I'd write a piece to express my views on the partly state owned utility company #Eskom.
The only thing worse than Eskom's load shedding, apart from the absence of power to the PPL, is their gratuitous shedding of loads of bull shit in vain attempts to explain their infinite incompetence.
To those in "Power", I say this: "Maintenance" is a word too. Please look it up. Please add this concept to "Fixed" and "Broken."
Whilst "Broken" can occur at any time, usually as a nasty surprise, "Maintenance" is something which requires a recognition of its importance, forward planning and implementation.

"Maintenance" keeps that which is "Fixed" from becoming "Broken" and/or reduces down-time when that which is "Fixed" does become Broken."
Maintenance is usually far cheaper than "Fixing" that which is "Broken."
Avoid the temptation to consider "maintenance" as a superfluous line-item in the Budget when everything appears to be "Fixed" for the time being and when money is required for major executive salary increases, plush new office suites, and to replace unfashionable one-year-old executive Porches, Land Rover's etc.
As the old adage says, a stich in time saves nine.
End of lecture:
We should all be shocked by the lack of maintenance and planning at Eskom. But Alas, we are not - for to be shocked one requires electricity!
As a parting shot, I will leave you to wonder whether or not Satan was annoyed to learn that he has been replaced by Eskom's CEO - the new Lord of Darkness.
