Maximizing results on +Google -
Here is a crib sheet of 20 top tips I sourced from various sites on the internet. +Search Engine Watch
1. To search for a phrase or words in exact
order -
put
the phrase inside quotation marks.
2. To search for a file type eg PDF documents:
enter
search terms followed by filetype:PDF
3. To Define a word -
4. To exclude a word or words,
use a
- (minus) sign after the words you want and then add the word, words you don’t.
5. To search for missing words within a known phrase
6. Search within range of dates or prices.
7. Searching for an article within a web-site.
Type site: followed by URL of
the website. Then add your search terms eg
site:news24.com technology
8. Set a timer - to take a break, time a phone- call, boil an egg, time a
worktask, anything
Type Timer into the search Bar
9. Reverse Image Search - You may not have noticed the word Image on the Google page just below
the task bar.
Click
on it, upload an image, and then get the likely source. If you move away from
the Image results to the ordinary web page results of the reverse search, you
will find more sites or information relating to that image. PURE MAGIC
10. MATHS - Type
in an equation & get the answer
11. CURRENCY: Type US $10 to Pounds
12. FIND A GIF:
Go to
Google Images. Click search tools and then TYPE
13. Search by TITLE:
Type intitle: and the word you
want. All results will include that word in the title.
14. Free Downloads of any type:
For example,
to find free Android APKs, you'd search for -inurl:htm
-inurl:html intitle:"index
of" apk to see site
indexes of stored APK files. You can use this to
find Android
apps, music
files, free
ebooks, comic

Alternatives to sites, products,
apps etc
Type Iphone vs leave it
blank. Google will try to autocomplete and may surprise you.
16. Searching or retrieving a page from GOOGLE CACHE:

17. Blocked sites:
Sometimes
one can use Google Translate or Google Mobiliser as a proxy server to get into blocked
keeping
a few URLs on hand.
You may already know that you can
sometimes bypass paywalls, get
around blocked sites, and download files by funneling
a site through Google
Translate or
Google Mobilizer. That's a clever search trick in and of itself, but just like Google Cache, you can
make the process a lot faster by keeping
a few
URLs on hand.
Just add the URL you want to visit to the end of the Google URL (e.g. http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ja&tl=en&u=http://examp le.com/and you're good to go. Check out the

Go to
search tools, TYPE and choose ……..
19. Time based results on a site:
Type
the URL and then add:
&tbs=qdr:n10
n
is for minutes. n10 restricts the search to the last ten minutes
use
h for hours eg h5 for five hours
