#CLOONEY IS RIGHT. #TheInterview must be screened on principle!

George Clooney voiced his displeasure over the failure of Hollywood stars to support his petition in favour of persisting with the screening of the controversial movie, "The INTERVIEW"

George's stand is the correct one. Whatever one thinks of the movie, this is about standing up against an attempt at censorship of American movies by foreign dictators.

In the legal profession there is a saying: hard cases make for difficult law.

In this case, the movie is said to be a tasteless comedy in which depicts a CIA assassination plot against the a sitting head of State, the North Korean Dictator. It is arguable that Sony should never have permitted such a movie to see the light of day. It is thus tempting not to support the calls for this movie to be screened.

In addition, there are no doubt many who fear that if they speak out in favour of the movie, they might be next to be hacked.  How

Right now, the issue of whether the movie is in good or bad taste is not the point. The point is that it was within Sony's right to make that movie, and no foreign country should be permitted to dictate to anyone in the US about whether it should or should not be screened.

The right to freedom of expression matters even if the expression in question is in poor taste!

And the obligation to defend that freedom becomes all the more crucial when it comes under threat of attack. We have become too complacent about our rights. We have forgotten that some times, we might be called to fight for them, as our ancestors have had to do in wars from time to time!

Do not be a coward who defends freedom only when one can do so without risk!
