Book Description:

Simon Sayer's wedding to the daughter of Cape Town millionaire Sander Castle, was always going to be spoken about for some time afterwards. Abby Castle's mother, Brigitte Castle spared no expense in her endeavour to guarantee that.

However, whenever the wedding came up in conversation, it always gave rise to the same question. Did they catch the unidentified scoundrel who had committed that unforgivable misdeed? - nay let's call it crime, for that it what it was! Brigitte's hopes that people would tire of the story were dashed when it was revealed in the local press that a meeting held between Sander Castle and the Banqueting Manger of the Mount Nelson had degenerated into a fierce shouting match in which Sander repeated his view that the a member of Hotel's staff was the perpetrator, whilst the Manager on the other hand remained defiant that the villain had to one of the guests. Little did either of them realise, that the truth would be revealed shortly after Simon and Abby returned from their honeymoon.

Simon Sayer chanced upon a plastic blue drum bobbing in the surf near the beach at Mariner’s Cove. He fished it out. It contained thirty bricks of cocaine each weighing one kilogram. Faced with several choices, Simon impulsively decided to keep half the cocaine. It’s a decision which ran counter to Simon’s law abiding nature.

To ease his conscience, he then thought it he ought at least to make an anonymous phone call to the police to report having spotted a suspicious blue drum which had landed on the beach.

Chief Inspector Walter Geiss believes Simon knows where the rest of the drugs are. He keeps Simon under surveillance, and constantly lurks in the shadows, waiting for Simon to trip up. The police are also waiting for the fall-out from something else - A newspaper report has named Simon as the good citizen who reported the half empty drum to the police.

A Nigerian Cartel send two heavy hitters, Father Spider Biti and Brother Max Payne to find Simon. They intend to persuade him that the sacrament of confession is far better for the soul than the last rites.

Sue More is an attorney who was once in partnership with her father, Rob More, in the firm, More & More. She leaves her father’s firm to go out on her own. Sue offers her services to Simon. But her services aren’t necessarily restricted to those usually provided by an attorney.

Guido de Luca, owner of the night club Purgatory, in Hermanus, is also the head of an Italian crime and drug ring operating there. Woe betide anyone who disrespects Guido by competing against him in his district.

Simon has to find a way to dispose of a large amount of cocaine without being caught by the police, and without Guido de Luca discovering that Simon might be operating in his territory at times. A tall order on its own.

But most of all, Simon has to keep one step ahead of the two "clergy" in what turns into a potentially deadly cat and mouse game.

Against this backdrop, a battle rages for the control of Satin Court, a small block of flats in Mariner's Cove. Simon owns unit five in that block and also resides there.

The wealthy developer, Spencer Fortune and his daughter Iona Fortune are intent on squeezing the remaining owners out of the block in order to implement their plans to build a hotel on the site. Simon joins Rosie Parker, a notorious busybody, and a quirky group of owners in the battle against the Fortunes.

The people of Satin Court do not escape the inevitable fall-out from Simon's illegal drug sales. Simon, however, isn't the only one at Satin Court with something to hide.

Secrets and lies prevent any of the show-downs from playing out as expected. There are more than a few twists and turns to negotiate for those who hope to remain standing when all is said and done. It's a tale so strange it has to be read in order not to believed.
